North Carolina Azalea Festival

Wednesday, April 5, 2017 to Sunday, April 9, 2017

The North Carolina Azalea Festival in Wilmington was founded in 1948 and features more than 50 events celebrating local arts and culture including a parade, concerts and art shows, a two-day street fair, home and garden tours, special exhibits, and more.

Latin Dance Social

Saturday, April 8, 2017, 10:00 PM

Islands Fresh-Mex Grill, 260 Racine Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403

The Latin Dance Social at Islands Fresh-Mex Grill in Wilmington, NC, features a fun-filled lesson followed by dancing: Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia. There will also be a performance by UNCW Ritmo Latino and giveaways.

Kite Flying Day

The inaugural Kite Flying Day at the Ocean Isle Beach Community Center is presented by the OIPOA and features a family friendly event with light refreshments. You can bring your own kite or purchase one.

Earth Day Festival

April 22, 2017, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Hugh MacRae Park, 314 Pine Grove Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409

Cost: FREE!

The annual Earth Day Festival at Hugh MacRae Park in Wilmington, NC, features a theme of “Building a Better World” and includes more than 45 environmental exhibits; drinks provided by Waterline Brewing Company, Noni Bacca, and Panacea Brewing Company; and food from StevieMack’s International Food Co., the UNCW Seahawk Food Wagon, and Smart Smoothies. The event also includes live music with OMNI Percussion Ensemble (noon), Folkstar (2:15pm), and the Casserole (4pm), plus a Kids’ Eco Zone. Mr. Mark will provide music for kids and lead the Nature Brigade Parade (1:45pm), where kids will show off costumes made from upcycled materials.

Race for the Planet 5K

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, 900 Loggerhead Road, Kure Beach, NC 28449

Cost: $30.00 to $40.00

The 9th Annual Race for the Planet 5K celebrates Earth Day and begins and ends at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher in Kure Beach. The flat, mostly asphalt course offers excellent views of the ocean, maritime forest and the Fort Fisher Civil War site. Runners and walkers receive free admission to the Aquarium on race day, and organic T-shirts for the first 300 registered.

Food Truck Rodeo and Grand Opening

The Food Truck Rodeo at Ogden Park in Wilmington features more than eight food trucks plus the Grand Opening of the new Ogden Skate Park. The event includes live music by Boba Funk, the Mushap y Mensa Art Truck featuring handcrafted gifts and activities for kids provided by the North Caroline Wildlife Commission. Food trucks in attendance include Catch, Poor Piggy’s Barbecue, P.T.’s Grill, La Bell Airosa, 2 Bros Coastal Cuisine, Soulful Twist, Tasty Tees, Dubs Donuts, and more.

Healthy Kids Day

The City of Wilmington and the YMCA present the 6th Annual Healthy Kids Day at Empie Park featuring a variety of activities including tennis, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, and lacrosse sports stations; face painting and bounce houses; jump rope and hula-hoop contests; information booths and vendors; and games and prizes. Local food trucks on premises.
