Thursday, June 2, 2016, 6:30pm: Fireworks by the Sea and Live Music

Location: Carolina Beach Boardwalk, Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428

Weekly through Labor Day weekend, The Carolina Beach Boardwalk will host live music and a fireworks display! June 2’s concert features the reggae of Roots United. When the sun sets, stick around for a spectacular sky-lighting over the shimmering Atlantic.

Friday, June 3, 2016, 6:00pm: Downtown Sundown Concert

Location: Princess Street and North Water Street, Wilmington, NC 28401

The 11th installment of the Downtown Sundown Concert Series sets up across from the Riverwalk in Wilmington, running every Friday through Sept. 2. June 3 opens with Phantom Playboys and then shows off the talents of Abbey Road Live, a Beatles tribute band. Beer, wine, and food are available, although a $1 wristband must be purchased to buy alcohol. Rain or shine, the show will go on!

Location: North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, 415 South Madison Street, Whiteville, NC 28472

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville presents Movie on Madison. The June 17 show will feature a newer animated classic, Despicable Me (PG). Chairs and blankets can be set up on the side lawn starting at 8pm. The movie will begin around dusk. Coolers, alcohol, and smoking are not permitted. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Saturday, June 18, 2016, 8:00-10:00am: Good Hops 5K Beer Run

The Good Hops 5K Beer Run in Carolina Beach, NC, begins at Good Hops Brewing and courses through the neighboring Carolina Beach State Park. All registered runners receive an official T-shirt, a Good Hops 5K Beer Run pint glass, and runners over age 21 get a ticket good for one pint of beer. This is a dog and walker-friendly event, and includes live music, food trucks, and door prizes. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Pleasure Island State Parks.

Location: Northeast Regional Library, 1241 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405

Wii Sports and Just Dance video games will be available from 9:30am to 12:30pm in the Children’s Room at Northeast Library in Wilmington, NC, on Friday mornings in June and July. No reservations are required to play on Wii Fitness Friday, but a parent must sign for their child’s use of game controllers. Get your kids up, active, and ready for summer!
