Saturday, March 5, 8:00am: Fundraiser: 7th Annual Cardinal Strut

A 10K, 5K, a 1.2-mile Fun Run, and the Cardinal Dash (a competitive 1-mile race) will be featured at a fundraiser for the Holly Tree PTA at Holly Tree Elementary School in Wilmington. A post-race party will include breakfast from Waffle House, music, awards, and a bounce house. Register online to participate.

Saturday, March 5, 12:00pm: Cape Fear Beer Fest

Sample more than 100 great American beers, ciders, and a few wines at the 6th Annual Cape Fear Beer Festival at the Wilmington Convention Center. Representation from an expected 50 breweries showcase their creations. You must be 21 years of age or more with a valid ID, and no exceptions will be made, so find someone to take care of the kids for the afternoon. Food options will be available for purchase. Tickets for designated drivers are available as well. Please drink responsibly.

Thursday, March 10, 6:30pm: Jazz at the CAM

The David Pankey Trio offer elegant performances of original, mainstream, and standard jazz tunes at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington. The sixth installment of the seven-part concert series is presented by the Cameron Art Museum and the Cape Fear Jazz Society.

Saturday, March 12, 10:30am: A Garden Photography Primer

Tom Conway of Nature’s Portraits Photography, a local commercial photographer with over 20 years’ experience, teaches how to handle the light and physical conditions of southeastern North Carolina. His 45-minute lecture will include three types of garden photos, garden photo techniques, and optical and digital concepts relevant to garden photography. Learn from someone who’s work has been featured in both Cincinnati and Wilmington.

The Main Library in downtown Wilmington hosts a change of pace for why we visit libraries. The film Divergent (rated PG-13), based on the first book in a popular Veronica Roth series, will be shown for free. Enjoy the start of Spring Break at a common study location for very non-study reasons.

Friday, March 25, 6:00pm: 4th Friday Gallery Night

The free monthly self-guided tour of galleries, studios, and art spaces is presented by The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County. Opening receptions, artist discussions, demonstrations, live music, wine, food, and other traditional and non-traditional art-related activities will be part of the evening as you peruse exhibitions of various genres of media.
