Summer festivals, outdoor theater performances, and general reverie in the sun is upon us. This makes it the perfect day to introduce our new monthly series, ‘What to Do in Wilmington This Month.’

Here are just a few of the neighborhood events going on around Wilmington, North Carolina for June.

TUESDAY, JUNE 9 AT 6PM: WILMINGTON SHARKS GAME

Nothing says summer like Baseball! Help cheer on the Wilmington Sharks as they take on the Wilson Tobs at Buck Hardee Field. Doors open at 6pm with the first pitch at 7:05pm. Check out wilmingtonsharks.com to see their whole schedule this season.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10 TO SUNDAY, JUNE 14: MARY POPPINS

The Opera House Theatre Company is proud to bring Mary Poppins to life at the Thalian Hall. Based on P.L. Travers’ novels and the Disney movie, this production of Mary Poppins will include all the iconic songs as well as introduce the audience to some new songs that will be sure to please.

FRIDAY, JUNE 12 TO SUNDAY, JUNE 14: ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL

The story is classic – poor girl falls in love with the rich guy – and comedy (and some drama) ensue. The story line may be classic, but the Cape Fear Shakespeare’s adaptation of All’s Well that Ends Well is modernized for the eyes of the youth and is both educationally and artistically appealing for all ages. Doors open at 6:30pm with performance beginning at 8pm.

MONDAY, JUNE 15 TO FRIDAY, JUNE 19: SUMMER POP-UP! HURRICANES

The summer needs to have a few educational elements to it and the Summer Pop-Up! Series from the Cape Fear Museum will not disappoint. This exhibition is an opportunity for kids (and adults) to experience what it’d be like to experience a hurricane and tornado first hand. With experiments and science, kids will learn the remarkable power of wind. There are two sessions of this exhibit each day: 11am to 12noon and 2:30pm – 3:30pm.

FRIDAY, JUNE 19: KIDS’ NIGHT OUT AT MAIDES PARK

Summer events geared towards kids are always a hit, and the Kids’ Night Out is sure to excite. Filled with games, arts, crafts and a Lego building contest, the kids will be kept entertained all evening. Geared toward 7 to 13 year olds, this event at Maides Park will leave the kids sufficiently tired. Please note that pre-registration is required.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27 AT DUSK: MOVIE IN THE PARK

Everything is AWESOME! Especially when you can watch The Lego Movie under the stars! The Movie in the Park series at Leland Municipal Park is sure to be a hit with the family. Make a night of it and bring a picnic, lawnchairs, blankets and get ready to enjoy this family night.

MONDAY, JUNE 29 TO THURSDAY, JULY 2: SUMMER POP-UP! MOON EXPLORATIONS

Kids’ imaginations will skyrocket as they take a virtual journey to outer space and back. Not only will kids be able to see the moon with the Cape Fear Museum’s digital planetarium, but they’ll also be able to witness the historical moon landing and explore the moon close up. There are two sessions each day: 11am – 12noon and 2:30pm – 3:30pm.
