Summer has arrived and there is plenty to get out and enjoy! As school ends and vacation begins, we have some recommendations for local events in Wilmington that we think you’ll enjoy as a family, and some you can enjoy without the kids when you need a break. 

Live Music and Fireworks by the Sea

June 1, 2017, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Carolina Beach Boardwalk, Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach

Cost: Free

The Carolina Beach Boardwalk hosts live music featuring Uncle Hairy, followed by some spectacular fireworks over the shimmering Atlantic Ocean once the sun goes down. 

FUNDRAISER: Blues, Brews and BBQ

June 4, 2017, 1:00 PM

Goat & Compass, 710 North 4th Street, Wilmington

Cost: $10.00

Blues, Brews and BBQ at the Goat & Compass in downtown Wilmington, NC, features a pig pickin’, blues music by Randy McQuay, a silent auction, and a whole hog raffle. The proceeds benefit Wilmington Cooperative School.

FUNDRAISER: 20th Annual Wilmington Symphony Golf Tournament

The 20th Annual Wilmington Symphony Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Landfall (Nicklaus Course Marsh-Ocean) benefits the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and its exceptional youth education programs.

Shakespeare on the Green: As You Like It

Cape Fear Shakespeare presents Shakespeare on the Green at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, featuring As You Like It, the Bard’s light-hearted satire on the popular genre of the pastoral romance. The play contains many of Shakespeare’s most beloved characters, including the heroine Rosalind, her cousin Celia, and the downcast traveler Jacques who speaks many of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches (“All the world’s a stage”, “too much of a good thing” and “A fool! A fool! I met a fool in the forest!”). Gates open at 6:30pm.

Snake & Turtle Feeding

Cost: $1.00

Halyburton Park in Wilmington, NC, presents a Snake & Turtle Feeding for ages 3 and older. A brief presentation about the live animals on display in the Event Center is followed by the feeding of at least one snake and a turtle.

Kure Beach Market

The pet-friendly Kure Beach Market meets at Ocean Front Park on Tuesday mornings through Aug. 29, and features local fruits and vegetables and locally made crafts.

Cost: Free

Drop-In Crafts at the Main Library in downtown Wilmington, NC, allows kids to create their own works of art with the variety of supplies that will be available for use in the room.

Movie at the Lake

The Movie at the Lake at Carolina Beach Lake Park features The Jungle Book featuring the voices of Bill Murray and Ben Kingsley. Running time: 1 hour, 46 minutes. Rated PG. Food and drinks are permitted, and concessions are available. The film begins at dusk and is subject to change.
